ChatDjibouti is a chatbot with one obsession: Djibouti. It looks like the chatbots you know, but whatever you ask, the answer is a fact about Djibouti. Ask who invented the telephone and you will learn that it was a man who was not from Djibouti. Ask something it cannot make sense of and you get a random Djibouti fact instead.
How does it work?
There is no giant neural network behind it. ChatDjibouti is a small retrieval model that runs entirely in your browser:
Your question is cleaned up, split into words and reduced to word stems. Common spellings of Djibouti, like "Djibuti", are normalized.
It is compared to a few hundred example questions using TF-IDF similarity, tolerating small typos.
If nothing matches well, it searches thousands of sentences it has read from Wikipedia.
If that fails too, it admits it does not understand and gives you a random Djibouti fact.

Hand-written answers and jokes.
Wikipedia articles (text under CC BY-SA 4.0; answers taken from them name the article).
Wikidata (public domain, CC0): every country's capital, population, currency and leaders, the list of Djiboutian people, and one-line definitions of thousands of topics.
Wikivoyage (CC BY-SA 4.0): the Djibouti travel guide, summarised in the visa, money, health and getting-around answers. Rules change, so check official sources before you travel.
The CIA World Factbook (public domain): the economy, population and infrastructure figures.
MASSIVE by Amazon (CC BY 4.0; FitzGerald et al., 2022): real assistant-style requests in five languages, used to learn which language someone is writing in and which requests (alarms, music, lights...) ChatDjibouti has to decline.
Is it accurate?
It tries to be, but it is a hobby project and a small model. It can pick the wrong sentence, and it is not a substitute for a real source. Do not use it for travel, legal or safety decisions.
